Victoria Dock sculpture making

In 2005, residents of Victoria Dock heritage group, The Winding House were successful in securing lottery funding to create a heritage trail celebrating the history of the area and leading to the project’s signature building The Winding House.

Residents of Victoria House, of the disabilities trust, worked with artist Theo Wickenden to investigate the historical background and visual patterns of the area. Ideas and observations of the site were shared and developed through practical experimentations in charcoal, pastel, clay and plaster.

The final design of the sculptures incorporated both contrasting elements of the man made and the natural and consist of “Four Windows to Nature”, the patterns and textures of the flowing forms found within nature framed by four formal aesthetically unified sections.
